Are you guys paying attention to this? This shit is nuts. I am listening to snippets and these people really need to read the proposed bills for themselves and stop watching Fox News. I can't believe this guy saying that illegals a/k/a hispanics are to blame for high healthcare costs. I'm not hispanic but this shit has offended me!

Now I'm sorry that I missed the one for my district. I should've went and threw a couple punches just because.

I caught a little of this here - http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/8196007.stm

Do you think this is a coordinated smear campaign?

Possibly. The one thing I keep hearing out of people is that this is us taking steps toward socialism. And the comparisons to Russia, Hitler, etc, are very telling. I am really starting to see what people outside of the U.S. see about us. The entitlement and elitism displayed by some saddens me.

yes, it is so sad. People acting like an angry mob as if it was the end of the world.. GEEZ. They need to read up on the health care issues, and then come back with some civilized questions, instead of just listening to rumors.

What Obama needs to do is stop having town hall meetings. LOL. I mean seriously that extreme element of the Republican party will not change anytime soon. So, I say fuck'em. Who needs them anyway. They are scared as hell because they know a health care bill will be passed sometime soon, and there is very little they can do about it.

It's sad and ironic that these so called god fearing good Christian folk would be so against helping their fellow man with a simple thing like basic health care. I wonder if Jesus would appreciate their behavior?

maryluvs_rolleyes0.gif Tell them they're fuckin idiots.
Russia wasn't socialism, it was Stalinism. Hitler was actually very very right wing, and talking about Hitler inappropriately shows how stupid they are by using 'Godwin's Law'.

A real Socialist country is someone like the UK or Sweden - both of which have a higher standard of living than the US. In fact, Sweden has the highest quality of life in the developed world.

Socialism is not Communism - modern Socialism basically means that everyone has equal access to all basic needs e.g. healthcare, water, pensions etc. Apart from those basic needs, it works the free market just as well as the US. It's just a belief that the some things are too important to try and make a dollar out of them.

The thing I've never understood about the American right is why they are so scared of free healthcare. Isn't it in the wealthy's best interests to have a healthy productive workforce? The long term economic advantages of free healthcare is there to see in post war Europe.

When the health service was setup in the UK in the 40s, doctors and people who made money out of health insurance dragged their heels. They launched huge propaganda campaigns, but the public saw through it. It's funny how the only people who opposed it were the ones who would stand to lose money when their racket was shut down. I'll bet it's the same thing in the US just now. The people driving this misinformation are the people who know this scheme will spell an end to their immoral money making scheme. Let's just hope the American public see through this.

Basically it's all good as long as the playing field isn't leveled. dry.gif

I heard yesterday afternoon that some of these people who are causing the outbursts at the meetings are being paid by the drug companies to flood these meetings with misinformation. maryluvs_smh.gif

That's the bottom line. The main people who will lose out if our healthcare system is overhauled would be the drug companies. They make a killing off of keeping us sick and doped up.

The UK does not. The UK is in fact very far from socialism. Sweden is a good example, the UK is not. Look closer to France or Germany, or even Ireland. The UK does not have a higher living standard than the US, because everything in the US is cheap. I mean look at your homes in the UK. I mean you have trouble to find a decent place place to live in even if you CAN afford to pay.

Higher literacy, higher employment, longer life expectancy, higher wages, lower social stratification, higher social mobility etc etc. Granted, the gap between the UK and the US is narrowing, but this also coincides with the UK moving to the right under Tony Blair.

The value of property is an idiosyncratic value. Just like the extortionate price of alcohol in Sweden. These things are relative.
